INTRODUCTION

Yeyuan Meng is a Chinese graphic designer and illustrator who has won CA several times. She studied graphic design and minored in psychology at Tsinghua University. Working in Ogilvy gives her the interdisciplinary background that makes her adept at integrating multi-dimensional and multi-field skills in her work. Her clients include Nestlé, Tencent, P&G, Intel, Xiaomi, Huawei, and JD.com.

This is a Spanish natural fruit oil and perfume brand Sentido. I create a full range of illustrations and packaging. I want to break away from the traditional ideas of perfume packaging design, so I integrate the ingredients, functions, feelings of each perfume, and the similar shapes of our organs into illustrations. Watermelon and brain, strawberry and nose, carambola and eyes, banana and lips.

The illustration shows the feeling of being fully immersed in the fragrance of fruit, as if the senses and the fruit are blended, hiding in the fruit world without distinguishing between you and me. Using this fragrance, our senses can be immersed in the fruity aroma, as if entering a fantasy world where fruits come alive. Either your brain is occupied by watermelons, or your nose is filled with strawberries, or your eyes are filled with star fruit trees, or you are kissed by a group of bananas.

It turns out that everyone is actually the same as me. This world is composed of countless souls that seem to be integrated but are actually alienated. They meet and leave quickly. The world is transparent.

This book tells the embarrassing daily stories of a protagonist who suffers from the so-called "embarrassment syndrome". From the perspective of a person with strong self-awareness and low self-esteem, the protagonist goes from a desire to be seen and noticed to discovering that the only thing people care about most is themselves. Even if he makes a fool of himself, no one will care or remember him. From then on, he becomes relaxed and self-contained.

Animated PSA :Preventing Child Sexual Abuse to Keeps Kids’ World Bright

This animation imbues classic fairy tale elements with new symbolic meaning, revealing the potential threat of child sexual abuse in real life. The blades of the grass and the big red apple symbolize male genitalia, the wolf’s claws and the hairy hand foreshadow dangers, while candies and toys represent temptation. With a dark art style, it’s thought-provoking and serves as a wake-up call, while the fairy tale scenes bring the work closer to the audience, helping arouse their longing for beauty and encouraging them to take actions against child sexual abuse.

Child sexual abuse cases have been distressingly frequent in recent years. However, sex in China is a taboo topic which can not be talked openly in the public, especially to the kids. That’s why this animation uses indirect ways to present the problem, aiming to help more people understand the severity of child sexual abuse and increase society’s focus on child protection. It also inspires more families and even the society to contemplate the importance of child sexual abuse prevention education.

Strong Symbolism Implied in the Work

The fairytale elements in this animation boasts strong symbolism. The Big Bad Wolf’s evil words are meant to abduct Little Red Riding Hood, while the hairy hand luring Snow White into eating the big red apple implies oral sex, and Mr. Rabbit’s candies and toys make Alice fall into the abyss symbolizing becoming an adult overnight via sexual games. These scenes caution children to resist temptation and stay away from potential sexual abuse threats.

The animation cleverly integrates the sexual abuse threats faced by children into classic fairytale scenes. In Emperor’s New Clothes, the naked adult makes a hush gesture to the child, coaxing the child into keeping a secret about what he did to the kid. In Sleeping Beauty, the one who kisses the child is not a prince but a bad guy with evil intentions. These scenes remind children not to trust strangers easily and to communicate with their parents when they meet some confusing problems.

The animation is designed to be fun and creative. Each fairy tale story is presented in exquisite illustrated form, accompanied by evil lines and creepy background music. The visuals are connected using a unique zoom-in transition, creating a smooth and rhythmic flow. Additionally, the animation primarily employs dark tones to convey the dark side and potential dangers of the tale.

The work is to respond to countless absurdities occurring all over the world about education, family, love, life, etc...Many turn a blind eye to it or even succumb to its existence.I create a series of illustrations to depict the unimaginable consequences of each of the modern absurdities. What would the world be like if we succumbed to all the absurdity?

To Be A Ghost

It doesn’t matter that I am a ghost in your eyes, I only do what I want.

Recently I read a news, a highly educated person went home to be a farmer, and most people didn’t understand it and they had comments such like：what the hell with this guy?

Data research shows that most Chinese people are not satisfied with their current lives due to living under the public's eyes, especially about their careers. The aim is to encourage people to be the one who doesn’t care about any occupational stereotypes.

I change the people who do the entry-level or unstable jobs into the ghosts from “The hundred ghosts of China ”. It means the impression in other’s eyes. However, the ghosts all look happy, satisfied and chill.

Watch Animals

A film adapted from real people and events tells the story of a heroine who founded a girls' school in a poor area so that girls from mountainous areas with the bad habit of favoring boys over girls can get education and change their destiny.

However, the film adapts the heroine's selfless love and social contribution spirit into a choice made out of mourning the death of her husband and looking for sustenance. According to interviews and related real-life documentaries, this is not the case. She did this out of her own will and great vision from beginning to end.
